The Globe Sessions

Sounds like Miz Crow has been spending some quality time with her Lindsey Buckingham CDs and grooving to Led Zeppelin's biggest sophisto-hairballs--and her opening stints with the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan haven't done her any harm either. The Globe Sessions is sho'nuff a quantum leap for an singer known best for having some fun while leaving Lost Wages. Even the most straight-ahead pop material here glows, and there are some fierce touches, like the guitar sturm und drang of "It Don't Hurt" and the "Kashmir"-isms of "Am I Getting Through," that even the most slavish fans couldn't have predicted. In brief, this is what we rock crickets call a Mature Work, beautifully played and sung (Crow's Okie drawl has never been as effective or flexible), craftily produced, and penned with a new sharp edge (who ever thought she'd warble about dropping acid?). Hopefully her original sponsors won't slam the door on her for reaching as far as she has. It's all good, kids.
