Days Of The New

Note to Alice In Chains fans: Tired of waiting for Layne Staley to clean up his act or for that solo album from Alice songwriter/guitarist Jerry Cantrell? Outpost Recordings has your fix with the eponomously-titled debut by Days Of The New. This Louisville, Kentucky-based quartet, led by 18-year-old Travis Meeks, offers such an impressive Alice In Chains simulation, its "Touch, Peel, And Stand" has managed to top the mainstream rock radio charts for a month. Produced by former R.E.M. producer Scott Litt, who also happens to be one of the principals of Outpost, Days Of The New's debut is filled with moody, atmospheric songs like "Solitude" and "Freak." Since the members of Days Of The New are all relatively young, it's too soon to dismiss this band completely. They still have many days to come up with something, er, new, or at least a bit more original.
