Let's Talk About Love
11/18/1997 3:00 AM, Yahoo! Music Rob O'Connor
What never ceases to amaze me is how the trite-est, most cliche-ridden music often takes an assembly-line of lauded music industry professionals to perfect. Haven't they found a computer to do this yet? Carole King, writer of hits throughout the ages, uses two co-writers to pen "The Reason." George Martin, who produced the early-Oasis prototype the Beatles, produced it and arranged and conducted the London Orchestra to sound like every other generic light-FM monstrosity, complete with the obligatory swell at song's end. The Bee Gees wrote the eminently awful "Immortality." Corey Hart wrote and produced two tracks. Celine duets with Barbra Streisand and Luciano Pavarotti. Cheesemonger Bryan Adams co-wrote the title track. Appropriately, she sings "My Heart Will Go On," the love theme from Titanic. Sinking ships are what I imagine as this tune plows onward of four-plus minutes and this album feels as if were never to end. Is it no wonder why I have such fears of going to the dentist?
