Bad Girl Review

07/13/2005 5:26 AM, AMG

"Bad Girl," the third single from Erotica, holds the dubious distinction of being Madonna's first single since "Holiday," way back in 1983, to not crack the U.S. Top Ten. As a matter of fact, it didn't even crack the Top 30. As is known, however, chart positions rarely reflect artistic achievement (or lack thereof). It just seemed as though the public was tired of Madonna's bratty bad girl posturing, which was in full swing at the time of the song's release. The maxi-single for "Bad Girl" doesn't include any remixes of the song, only an edit and an extended mix, both almost identical to the original album version. It does, however, include four steamy remixes of its B-side, her cover of "Fever." "Fever" was released as a video to MTV and as a single overseas, but in the U.S. it was reduced solely to B-side status, which is unfortunate because the video remix of the song was excellent. And even more unfortunate, that version, arguably the best of its remixes, was not even included on this single! The remixes of "Fever" are good, sweaty, stripped down, bare-bones deep house versions, but to have the video version on this disc would have been great. In essence, this single could have been much better. ~ Jose Promis, All Music Guide
