The Collection: Terry Hall Review
07/13/2005 5:44 AM, AMG
The Collection compiles 22 highlights from Terry Hall's long, eclectic career, spanning from his groundbreaking work with the Specials to his '90s collaboration with Dave Stewart, Vegas. In between, all of the major hits Hall has sung are covered -- from the Specials' "Gangsters," "Nite Klub," and "Ghost Town" to the Fun Boy Three's "The Lunatics (Have Taken Over the Asylum)," "It Ain't What You Do (It's the Way That You Do It)," "Summertime," and "Our Lips Are Sealed," as well as Colourfield's "Thinking of You." Several failed singles from the Colourfield, Terry, Blair, and Anouchka, and Vegas are included, as are interesting B-sides and rarities. And even with these rarities, The Collection remains the definitive compilation of Terry Hall's career, since it boils down an uneven, but always interesting, career to the essentials. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
