Easy Review

Faith No More had been faithfully covering "Easy" all over its Angel Dust tour, so the band decided to release this EP to showcase its rendition of the Lionel Richie classic. The group really does perform a pretty good version of the song, taking it relatively seriously and letting Mike Patton's croon carry the track. The only original on the EP, "Das Schutzenfest," is a polka with German lyrics ranting on about an archery festival and brown nuts and other nonsense. The track is very strange, although internal problems with guitarist Jim Martin probably prevented any real songs from being written during this period. "Midnight Cowboy" was previously released on Angel Dust, but still stands up as a beautiful cover of a great movie theme. Finally, the lounge jazz take on the Dead Kennedys' "Let's Lynch The Landlord" is fun for those who know the original, but is very non-essential otherwise. Strangely enough, this is a pretty great EP; nothing groundbreaking, but it shows a lighter side of a band that had committed commercial suicide with a dark, brooding album only one year before. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
