The Yodelling Ranger (1936-1947) is a five-disc box set containing all of Hank Snow's early recordings, including all of his material for RCA Canada and several unreleased songs, alternate takes and rarities. This material is primarily of interest to hardcore Snow fans -- there aren't many well-known hits on the collection, but there are good versions of contemporary hits, as well as several answer records -- but for those dedicated listeners, the set's comprehensiveness and loving liner notes are a worthwhile investment. Consumer warning: the fifth disc contains just four tracks -- a two-part "Life Story" and two demos. ~ Thom Owens, All Music Guide
