Faith Review

Faith Hill moves toward mainstream pop on her third album, Faith. Without abandoning the polished contemporary country that defined her first two efforts, she's expanded her sonic palette, evidently with the hope of getting an MOR audience -- that's the only reasonable explanation behind the Diane Warren and Sheryl Crow songs on the album. Hill gives it her all, and there are some very nice performances here; anyone who doubted her vocal prowess will be impressed with her showcase performance here. Still, it's a little disconcerting to hear the heavy-handed arrangements that dominate the album -- she may never have been a country singer in the classic sense, but here she's hanging to the genre by the most tenuous of strings. ~ Thom Owens, All Music Guide
