This is an enjoyable budget sampler highlighting Mel Tillis' Kapp and MGM honky tonk hits. These ten tracks include several of his chart-toppers from the '70s, including "I Ain't Never," "Heart Over Mind," and "Sawmill." American Originals works as an introduction to Mel Tillis, but hardly scratches the surface of the quality material easily available. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
