Singing In My Sleep Review

07/13/2005 6:30 AM, AMG

A melodic ode to the art of making mix tapes, "Singing in My Sleep" is one of the highlights from Semisonic's second album, Feeling Strangely Fine. The radio mix of that song is represented here along with a couple of covers, a demo, and an album track. Prince's "Erotic City," a long-time Semisonic concert staple, allows the band to step beyond their comfortable guitar-pop boundaries into '80s-funk territory with excellent results, while the less adventurous "Air That I Breathe" adequately pays homage to an obvious influence, the Hollies. Predictably, the demo version of "Closing Time" lacks the energy that made that song an instant singalong classic. Also included is the album version of "Delicious" from the 1996 album Great Divide. ~ Michael Frey, All Music Guide
