The Glamorous Life: Live Review
07/13/2005 6:34 AM, AMG
The New York Dolls made only two legitimate albums, New York Dolls (1973) and In Too Much Too Soon (1974), both released on Mercury Records. But since their demise, a handful of poorly recorded albums of demos and live performances have been released, and The Glamorous Life Live is actually a compilation mostly drawn from a couple of previous ones, Seven Day Weekend and Red Patent Leather. The first six tracks -- "Jet Boy," "Who Are the Mystery Girls?," "Babylon," "Don't Start Me Talkin'," "Trash," and "Vietnamese Baby" -- are rehearsal versions of songs found in their finished versions on the Mercury albums. The remaining tracks come from the 1975 show that resulted in Red Patent Leather, originally released on the French Fan Club label. Most of the songs are covers, and the sound quality is poor. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
