Dubbed “Nu-Rave” by the NME, the U.K.’s Klaxons play a Red Bull-influenced version of apocalyptic dance rock. Newcomers will assign a Bloc Party hangover to their groove, but glam rock advocates will certainly hear a Tony Visconti-blessed mix of T. Rex, Bowie, Joy Division, Happy Mondays and so on. Which is to say, tunes such as “Totem On The Timeline,” “As Above, So Below” and “Gravity’s Rainbow” should immediately send the pulse racing, the body to the dancefloor and the mind into a game of quick recall. That nagging feeling that you remember a certain tune is made all the more maddeningly by the elaborate big-scale production that sends the mind reeling into opposite directions. However, ecstasy has its way of short-circuiting the synapses and one will just have to face the end of the world with an incredulous smile and no valid response to that feeling of dj vu that haunts these tracks in all their splendorific glory. The faces look familiar, but you can’t remember their names. Damn you.
