See It First: Goth Legend David J Reworks Britney Spears's 'Toxic'

David J

There are many landmark moments in David J's musical career, which purveyors of the seminal goth scene will well know: He is of course one of the founding members of iconic quartet Bauhaus, continuing into trio Love And Rockets, and then into a solo direction comprising an impressive number of albums and single releases.

However, there's one thing he hasn't done yet: Namely, cover a Britney Spears song. That's all taken care of, however, on J's latest album, "An Eclipse of Ships," released Tuesday and including Spears's "Toxic" as a bonus track. Yahoo Music is excited to offer the first look at the video for this cover, which features cult fave actress Sasha Grey in an unforgettably poisonous role.

As J explains in this exclusive intro to his new video, his take on the Spears song was to make it "super sleazy" and "wounded." He also describes Grey as a "succubus-like predatory super-villainess...I am somewhat ambivalent quarry!"

Now, tell us you can't resist checking it out.

David J is currently playing select dates in support of "An Eclipse of Ships." If you'd like to catch him live, you can keep up with his schedule here.
