Avril Lavigne’s fifth studio album to be released later this year

Epic Records chairman and "X Factor" judge L.A. Reid has announced that Canadian punk princess Avril Lavigne's new album is due out either at the end of the year or early 2013.

But what we really want to know is: Will she be singing any duets with her fiancé, Nickleback frontman Chad Kroeger?

According to reports, the album could feature one or two duets of the couple.

During a radio interview with Mix 104.1/Boston, Kroeger revealed that he worked on up to eight songs with his new fiancé and it was her encouragement that led him to be on the album.

"Things just clicked real quick," he said. "We were just gonna couple of tunes. And then she wanted me to sing on one of them and then we just started flying on all these different songs."

We can bet fans of the couple will be clamoring to get the new album.

"We're in the mixing process now and I expect to release it very soon," Reid said. "I'd like to get it out this year, but time seems to be flying. If we don't, it will be top of the new year. She worked with Chad Kroeger ... and they did a really good record."

This isn't the first time the 27-year-old has worked with one of her love interests in the studio. Lavigne worked with ex-husband Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 on two albums: 2007's "The Best Damn Thing" and 2011's "Goodbye Lullaby," in which he is credited as a producer.

Lavigne describes the new album: "I'm trying to go for both sides. I love to rock out. I love to be crazy and have fun and have a more rock and roll aggressive side to me," she told MTV News.

She also said, "But I also have a softer side and I wanted it also to be about my vocals... When you are having a good time making a record that always comes across in music. The energy's good so things flow better and that's what I'm excited about."

In the past, songs produced by Whibley on Lavigne's albums like "Push," "Everybody Hurts" and "Darlin" on "Goodbye Lullaby" featured a mix of acoustic guitars and an overall more mellow vibe.

With the added influence of the Canadian rocker, it will be interesting to see if Lavigne's style will push the boundaries into Nickelback flaming rock territory or if her musical direction will go to a new place where the multitude "of tricks in her arsenal" (as Kroeger calls it) can live in harmony.
