"This is my favourite part of the show because we do a fan request every show and someone in this audience gets to pick what I'm singing tonight," Clarkson says in the clip prefacing her performance of the Spears track.

She also said, "We've done everything from Katy Perry to Foo Fighters to Coldplay, we do everything. I love music and I was actually so excited that somebody requested this song [that] I asked my musical director, Jason, to find a harpist because I think that it would [sound and] look awesome."

"This song is one of my favourite songs," the 30-year-old says just before launching into the 2004 "In The Zone" album tune. "I do it a little differently than her and I actually was telling one of my best friends, who does my makeup before the show, that I actually prefer the other girl's version better, because it just sounds really sad, but I'm going to try and do it."

After seeing the cover on YouTube, Spears tweeted Clarkson, writing, "Awww @Kelly_Clarkson this is beautiful girl! Xxoo," to which the "Idol" alum responded, "Thanks girl! I love that song :)."

Isn't it nice when pop stars get along and appreciate each other?

While in its heyday, "Everytime" peaked at number 15 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and went to number four on the Pop Songs chart. It was also revered as "Spears' most adult and her closest attempt at a traditional pop ballad" and denied as her response to ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake's post-break up track, "Cry Me A River."
