Carly Rae Jepsen ‘stands by’ Justin Bieber and dishes on new album

Justin Bieber will be on tour for most of the summer, and while he’s still being watched by the world for his next misstep, it seems like his opening act Carly Rae Jepsen is supporting him all the way.

"I actually am so out of the loop on any of that, to be honest," the singer told Billboard. "People are constantly, like, 'Is Justin OK?' I've not really noticed any of that. I feel like Justin's a guy who's working hard every day, and I think the media can sometimes be a little brutal with stuff and over-exaggerate things. But I stand by him. I support him. I think he's a good guy, and he's doing the best he can."

This isn’t the first time Jepsen has spoken highly of her fellow Canadian musician. She also commented on Bieber's work ethic in May, telling E! News, “All I see is an incredibly hard worker and a man who's just passionate about what he does."

She also said, "Just putting it on himself to take on a lot all at once … I think if anything I'm inspired by how hard he works, and I definitely want to add that to my own mantra as just like working really hard and doing my thing.”

The teen heartthrob helped Jepsen rise to fame after he covered her tune “Call Me Maybe,” and since then, the “Canadian Idol” alum has been signed to Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun’s label School Boy Records, released her album “Kiss,” and supported on the “Believe Tour.”

When it comes to new music, Jepsen has already started work on her next record and tells Billboard that it will be her “own version of pop” and that her favourite pop artists are Robyn, Kimbra, La Roux and Dragonette.

“I think I have a folky side in my blood from what I used to listen to with my parents, and it'll be fun to incorporate of that more in the verses of the pop songs, a little something deeper to the verses,” she explained. “That's what I love about the pop stars I just named, is they don't do just your regular kind of pop songs. There's some stuff to hold onto and dig into. That's what I want to do."
