Drake’s dad to appear on album

Getting celebrity collaborators on your record is all the rage at the moment. But when it comes to the deluxe edition of Drake's "Nothing Was The Same" album, not even Jay Z, Lil Wayne or Hudson Mohawke can compete with Drake’s dad, who will be collaborating with the Toronto native on one of the tracks.

Drake’s dad Dennis Graham, who the singer revealed "always wanted to be a famous singer," will appear on a bonus track called "Heat of the Moment."

"My dad is a star, that's what you have to understand," Drake said in a recent interview with XXL. "I'm living my dad's dream."

It’s not the first time that Drake has sung with his dad. Some of his old man’s spoken dialogue featured on “Jodeci Freestyle,” which Drake released alongside J. Cole earlier this summer.

During the interview announcing the collaboration, Drake also talks about his relationship with his father, who divorced his mom Aubrey when the star was just five: “It’s a real relationship,” he says. “Not to be ironic, we go through the motions of a father-son relationship. Right now, he happens to be extremely stable and content, and I take care of what I can for him. All he wants to do is go to Beale Street in Memphis and play music. He’s rediscovered his passion for music and for being a musician.”

Drake went on: “Like any other family, there have been dark times. There have been other interviews where I was asked about my dad and I didn’t want to talk about it. And there were records where I didn’t paint my dad as the greatest guy. At the end of the day, my dad knows I love him and that he’s a great friend of mine, but as far as being a father goes, I look forward to being a better father for the children that I have. But at the end of the day, he is a great man and I love him very much.”

“Nothing Was the Same” is set for release on Sept. 24.
