Four Canadian albums to look forward to in 2013

This year promises some pretty exciting albums by Canadian artists Arcade Fire, Avril Lavigne, Tegan and Sara and Justin Bieber.

Check out our list below of these four Canadian albums you should check out in 2013.

1. Artist: Arcade Fire
Album Title: TBA
Release Date: Late 2013

Last October, Montreal-based indie rock band Arcade Fire announced that the follow-up to their 2010 Grammy Award-winning album “The Suburbs” would likely come at the end of this year.

Giving us a look into what the recording process has been like for the band, drummer Jeremy Gara told Ottawa radio station CKCU 93.1, “Now we're in the studio pretty much full-time just doing what we do. And we kind of shut the door. We haven't really gone out and done anything in over a year now. We haven't done photos or interviews or anything. We're just working on music and growing beards and living at home a lot and going out to dinner together.”

In December, the band played a secret concert in Montreal under the moniker "Les Identiks" and prevented audience members from leaking any new material that was performed by invoking a no phone policy at the show.

However, according to a fan Twitter account, the new tunes sound “fun, dance-y and groovy.”

2. Artist: Tegan and Sara
Album Title: “Heartthrob”
Release Date: January 29, 2013

Featuring their new single “Closer,” the Canadian sister indie rock duo is set to release their new album “Heartthrob” later this month and get quite clap-happy in the album’s trailer.

The pair is also nominated for a Grammy Award this year for their clip “Get Along” in the category of Best Long Form Music Video against artists Esperanza Spalding, U2, Sade and tour mates Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show.

3. Artist: Avril Lavigne
Album Title: TBA
Release Date: Early 2013

Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid announced in September that we could expect to hear pop/punk princess Avril Lavigne’s newest offering either at the end of 2012 or in early 2013.

Now that 2012 has come and gone, we are eagerly awaiting the 27-year-old’s new album, which she worked on with her fiancé and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, to debut soon.

4. Artist: Justin Bieber
Album Title: “Believe Acoustic”
Release Date: January 29, 2013

While on “The Ellen DeGeneres” show in December, Justin Bieber announced that in January he would debut an album of select songs from his 2012 disc “Believe” in acoustic form, saying, “It’s something I think the fans really like because I started out on YouTube just playing my guitar, just singing without all of the production, so I like to put out acoustic albums. I think it’s more intimate for the fans.”
