In 1995, O.J. Simpson was found innocent, the film “Toy Story” was released and Canadian singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette debuted her third studio album “Jagged Little Pill.”

Billboard has named it the third best-selling record since 1991 with 14.75 million copies sold in U.S. and 33 million worldwide.
At the 1996 Grammy Awards, Morissette was recognized for her album which included such smash hits as “Hand In My Pocket,” “Ironic” and “You Oughta Know” with six nominations. (The same amount as Mariah Carey.)
The songstress won four awards including, Best Rock Song and Best Female Rock Vocal for “You Oughta Know” and Best Rock Album and Album of the Year for “Jagged Little Pill,” but lost in the Best New Artist and Song of the Year categories.

Prior to Taylor Swift winning Album of the Year at only 20-years-old in 2010 for her record “Fearless,” Morissette was the youngest to ever win the award as she was 21-years-old when she won.
Morissette battled Carey, Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam and Joan Osborne in the Album of the Year category and upon accepting the award with her producer Glen Ballard she said, “I accept this on behalf of anyone who has ever written a song from a very pure place, a very spiritual place.”
She also said, “There’s plenty of room for a lot artists so there’s no such thing as ‘the best’ and thank you very much.”

Proving why she won four Grammys that night, Morissette treated the audience to an uncensored haunting acoustic rendition of “You Oughta Know” that still gives us goose bumps today.
A interesting fact about the original recording of “You Oughta Know” is that the tune’s band consisted of Flea on bass and Dave Navarro on the guitar who were both in the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1995 and drummer Taylor Hawkins, who would go on to join the Foo Fighters in 1997.
