INXS announces break-up in Australia after 35 years together

While on tour supporting pop/rockers Matchbox Twenty in Australia on Nov. 11, iconic rock band INXS announced that they were breaking up.

According to Perth Now, drummer Jon Farriss said, "I'm getting teary," before they played their hit "Need You Tonight" at the Perth Arena show and today, current frontman Ciaran Gribbin took to Facebook to explain, writing:

"Dear friends, I know a lot of you are concerned and want clarification on what happened at the INXS gig last night in Perth. As I write this most of INXS are on a plane flying from Perth to Sydney. Please try and be patient as the Band plan to release a full statement on the subject ASAP. I'm sorry I can't say anymore at this time and hope this helps ease a few worries and concerns. Thank you All for all the love and kind wishes. Ciaran."

Perth Now also says that a full statement from the Australian band on the matter is expected to be released on Nov. 13.

Forming in 1977, INXS consisted of original members Michael Hutchence (lead vocals,) Garry Gary Beers (bass,) Andrew Farriss (keyboards and guitar,) Tim Farriss (guitar,) Kirk Pengilly (guitar and saxophone) and Jon Farriss (drums.)

On Nov. 22, 1997, the rock band lost Hutchence after he was found dead in his hotel room and was later replaced by singer Jon Stevens from 2000 to 2004, Canadian talent J.D. Fortune from 2005 to 2011 and finally Gribbin in 2011.

While we mourn the loss of yet another awesome rock band, let's look back at a few of our favourite live performances of the tracks we will miss the most.

1. "What You Need"
Performing with Hutchence, the band rocked out to their 1986 "Listen Like Thieves" album track "What You Need" live at Wembley Stadium in 1991.

2. "New Sensation"
In 1988, the band performed one of their biggest hits "New Sensation" at the MTV Video Music Awards with the ever-charismatic Hutchence at the helm.

3. "Suicide Blonde"
Acting as the musical guests on "Saturday Night Live," INXS brought their hit "Suicide Blonde" to the comedy sketch show in 1990.

4. "Pretty Vegas"
After hosting reality show "Rock Star: INXS" to find a new lead singer, J.D. Fortune was chosen as the winner and performed with the band on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2005. "Pretty Vegas" was the lead single off their first album with the Canadian singer titled, "Switch."

5. "Need You Tonight"
Probably one of the most well known INXS tunes, this is the last live performance of "Need You Tonight" uploaded after the announcement of the band's break up on Nov. 11, 2012.
