Justin Timberlake to perform at charity event Super Bowl weekend

For the first time in over four years, Justin Timberlake will perform live as a solo artist.

The news came yesterday that the former 'N Sync member will take the stage on Feb. 2 during DirecTV’s Super Saturday Night charity concert event in New Orleans which will support Shriners Hospital for Children.

The charity show will also feature an appearance by The Roots’ Questlove, who will act as the opening and closing DJ.

Prior to the announcement, the 31-year-old sent out a few mysterious tweets regarding his attendance at this year’s Super Bowl, writing, “This is gonna be a GREAT Super Bowl! 49ers/Ravens?? Can't wait! i'm booking my flight to New Orleans right now!”

He also wrote, “Oh wait... I don't have tickets. Dammit! Anybody know anybody?? LOL!”

Sending mysterious tweets seems to be Timberlake’s new favourite thing as earlier this month he teased his fans with a countdown to the release of his latest single “Suit & Tie” and this morning, released a new lyric video for the tune.

The “SexyBack” hitmaker’s upcoming performance is highly anticipated, especially since his track record with Super Bowl-related gigs is quite memorable.

In 2001, the musician and the rest of 'N Sync co-headlined the Super Bowl XXXV halftime show with Aerosmith in a fantastic set that included appearances by Mary J. Blige, Nelly and Timberlake’s girlfriend at the time, Britney Spears. (Oh, sweet nostalgia!)

Fans everywhere let out a collective squeal of jubilation after seeing the two former Mouseketeers take the stage together while performing Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.”

A controversial wardrobe malfunction (now remembered as “Nipplegate”) surrounded the pop star in 2004 at Super Bowl XXXVIII when he performed with Janet Jackson and ripped off a piece of her costume at the end of his tune “Rock Your Body,” exposing her breast.

After the event, the singer apologized, saying, “I am sorry if anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance at the Super Bowl. It was not intentional and is regrettable."
