Justin Timberlake to release new music in 2013

He’s ready, are you?

On Jan. 9, Justin Timberlake sent out a mysterious tweet, writing, “Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 9:01 A.M. PST…,” which multiple media outlets assumed was the date and time of a music-related announcement.

Then, at the precise time indicated, the 31-year-old singer tweeted, “To whom it may concern...I think I'M READY! #JT2013,” with a link that leads to a video message.

In the clip, he talks about his devotion to music in a voice-over while we see him on his way to the recording booth, saying, “Someone asked me the other day, ‘So, are you just done with music?’ It means more to me than anybody else in the world.”

He also said, “Look, I’ve only done two albums in 10 years, that’s the way I really look at it. What does the next decade mean for me? I’m the one who sits and is obsessive about it before you even get to hear it. As close as I get to it, I don’t know that I could physically torture myself that much year in and year out and expect it to fulfill me the way that it does and the way that it is right now. I don’t want to put anything out that I feel like is something I don’t love. You just don’t get that every day. You have to wait for it.”

The video then reveals a countdown on his website that ends in a little over three days, which we assume means that we can expect another big announcement (or maybe a new single?!) on Jan. 14 at 12 A.M. EST.

A few clues can be seen behind the countdown clock, where a blurred graphic featuring a bow tie at the top of the page and the letters J and E, which come into focus every few seconds.

Almost instantaneously, the hash tag “#JT2013” began to trend worldwide on Twitter with fans excited about the return of Timberlake to the music world.

“Considering I still listen to FutureSex/LoveSounds like it came out a week ago I would say yeah I'm ready for new JT material. #JT2013,” on fan tweeted.

Wrote another: “Justin Timberlake's announcement video is like Brad Pitt cologne commercial-level crazy... but OMGNEWMUSIC. #jt2013.”

Billboard reports that the singer has an album’s worth of tunes ready, which was produced by Timbaland, the same artist he worked with on the "FutureSex/LoveSounds" album in 2006.

According to NME, the 40-year-old producer and rapper Jay-Z could also be featured on a new song with the former 'N Sync member. More rumours have also begun to swirl that Jay-Z’s wife Beyoncé might also be involved in Timberlake’s latest project.

You might remember that Beyoncé appeared on the "FutureSex/LoveSounds" album track “Until The End Of Time,” so it wouldn’t be a huge shock if they rekindled their duet connection again this time around.

If the “LoveStoned” hitmaker does release a full album this year, he won’t be without competition as a lot of big names in pop music will be dropping some greatly anticipated records in 2013.

For instance, MTV notes that we could see new material from artists like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Jonas Brothers and Selena Gomez this year.

Canadian boy wonder Justin Bieber will also be releasing an acoustic version of his “Believe” album on Jan. 29.

Right after Timberlake made his announcement, Bieber tweeted him and his producer, writing, “@jtimberlake @Timbaland i have heard some stuff. u got a good reason to be ready. #greatmusic.”

This will be the first album for the musician since "FutureSex/LoveSounds," which features such No. 1 singles as “What Goes Around…Comes Around,” “My Love” and “SexyBack.”

Yes, Mr. Timberlake, we are definitely ready.
