Kelly Clarkson delivers an unexpected and brave rendition of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” while in Detroit

On her "Stronger" tour, the original "American Idol," Kelly Clarkson, has taken to performing fan requested songs during each show.

On Friday, August 10, Clarkson delivered a shocking, and albeit heavily censored, cover of rapper Eminem's Academy Award-winning track "Lose Yourself" while in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

"I'm being very brave tonight with this fan request," the 30-year-old says in the clip prefacing the song while she slips on a grey hooded sweatshirt, which she had borrowed from a friend, adding to the full effect of the song.

"I know [that] I'm in Detroit, so is anybody an Eminem fan?" she asked the audience who screamed in agreement. "I am an Eminem fan as well, I grew up listening to him as well."

She also said, "But, the difference is people, when you listen to him on the radio and sing along in your car, you're a lot more badass than you actually are. Because, when you get alone without Eminem doing it with you, it's not as good…I went from Texas to thug y'all! If this sucks, you better still come to my shows 'cause I'm doing this for y'all!"

Performing with all of the swagger she could muster, Clarkson is as cute as ever trying to re-create the hard-core hip-hop energy that she probably perfected while singing along to Eminem in her own car.

"It is so hard," she explained after finishing her rendition of the 2002 tune. "I had all this saliva in my mouth and had no where to go with it! It was like, I can't swallow [because] there's nowhere to breathe!"

Revealing that this was her first experience performing a rap track, Clarkson said, "We do these fan favourites every show and they're always fun because, you know, I would never, ever rap, ever. That was the first time in my life."

Stating that she still had a great time doing it, she said, "It's always fun though because I like to do different genres of music because I love music. Anyway, that was hard as hell so let's do an easy one," she added before launching into her next song, "Breakaway."
