Lady Gaga fans fooled over new trap-rap track “Cake”

Lady Gaga producer DJ White Shadow posted a fishy song competition on Twitter, Sept. 19, where he asked fans to submit vocals over a new trap-rap (a subgenre of rap) track and would debut the winner for all to hear.

However, the result was a song that, when slightly modified, sounded a lot like Gaga herself and ignited speculation that it was in fact a leaked track.

"I just made this TRAP sh-t, so I am going to put it on my Soundcloud. Then I am going to give everyone a couple hours to make a song," White Shadow tweeted. "You send it back to me and I will put the best one back out for everyone to hear... What do you think?"

He also wrote, "You take your computer and rap into it, and I will put out the best one! You all have garage band no? Me and @TaraSavelo are going to judge [and] extra bonus points for whoever writes a song about @ladygaga."

Fans sent in their vocal submissions over the track and the result sounded like something that could have appeared on a Tyler, The Creator record called "Cake" that featured a super low pitch voice.

"In an unusual twist of fate, the winner has asked not to be announced!" White Shadow tweeted before debuting the song. "It's awesome [to be honest] @TaraSavelo."

Shortly after the winning song was posted by Tara Savelo (Gaga's make-up artist,) a fan took the tune and boosted the pitch up a few notches to reveal a voice that sounds a lot like Mother Monster herself.

"DJWS just uploaded this," Soundcloud user HausofMason wrote in the track's description. "I pitch-shifted it up and I got this. It sounds like Gaga! O_O."

Spin points out that if the song did originate from Gaga, it's "either silly and fun or borderline racist and totally not cool. Either way, it's more promo for Gaga's upcoming album 'ARTPOP.'"

Do you think the track sounds like Gaga and was just a ploy for publicity for her new album?
