Madonna’s cone bras sell for $77,000 at auction

Costumes for Madonna's 1990 "Blond Ambition World Tour," which were designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier, recently fetched a pretty penny at auction, including the Material Girl's cone bras.

Rolling Stone reports that two of the cone-shaped bras brought in more than $77,000 (USD) at Christie's Pop Culture auction in London.

The Guardian reveals that a private bidder picked up the "couture corset with conical cups, beaded fringe and candy striped embroidery of opalescent sequins" for £32,450 (about $52,000 CAD), which sounds like it could be this costume from the "Hanky Panky" number on the tour.

Madonna's tour memorabilia weren't the only items to spark interest at the Pop Culture auction.

According to Billboard, collectors also snapped up Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger's white, pearl-embellished jumpsuit that the iconic lead singer wore during their 1972 tour as well as two guitars that once belonged to Elvis Presley, which fetched $13,000 (USD) each.

Pop singer/songwriter Lady Gaga recently exercised the memorabilia collector in her as she posted on Twitter that she had purchased 55 items that belonged to Michael Jackson at an auction in Los Angeles on Dec. 2, which in total raised $5 million (USD.)

"The 55 pieces I collected today will be archived & expertly cared for in the spirit & love of Michael Jackson, his bravery, & fans worldwide," the 26-year-old musician tweeted.

One band in particular that usually has success when it comes to auctioned items is The Beatles. New items have recently surfaced such as rejected audition tapes and a letter that John Lennon wrote to Eric Clapton, which is predicted to sell for approximately $30,000 on Dec. 18.

In the handwritten letter that is dated Sept. 29th, 1971, Lennon writes, "Eric, I know I can bring out something great, in fact greater in you that had been so far evident in your music. I hope to bring out the same kind of greatness in all of us, which I know will happen if/when we get together."

It's worth noting that Clapton has played with Lennon and Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band and is the guitar soloist on The Beatles' classic 1968 tune "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from their commonly known "White Album."
