Canadian crooner Michael Bublé has blossomed before our eyes and finally discovered who he really is. In an interview with Billboard last week, the singer opened up about the musical journey that led to his latest album "To Be Loved" (out today) and his new sense of certainty.
“What's funny is it took me up to ‘Crazy Love’ to figure out who I was,” Bublé said. “I was trying to pull from so many places it took me that long to find out what Michael Bublé’s distinct voice was.”
He continued: “A lot of stuff I did, I was honestly just trying to do an impersonation. Listen, I started when I was 26, so by the time I was in my 30s I started to feel like I had finally put together who I am. I also felt like I had the power for the first time to say, ‘This is how I'm gonna do it.’"
On Sunday, the soon-to-be dad will host the Juno Awards and we expect that this new air of confidence will only add to the charming, charismatic and captivating aspects of his personality that we have come to know and love.
Some may have their doubts about how funny this British Columbia-native really is. To them,them we present the following exhibits as reasons why Michael Bublé will be a fantastic Juno Awards host.
Exhibit A: His promos started him off on the right foot
Jumping into bed with one of Canadian music’s most talked about couples (Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and pop/punk princess Avril Lavigne), Bublé announced his Junos hosting gig with an adorable teddy bear and an endearing face full of popcorn.
His eager attitude in the clip made us laugh and he definitely impressed us with his commitment to the moment. He also wrote the skit and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with for the actual show.
Exhibit B: He’s fun to watch
Whether he’s just being himself or impersonating artists like Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber or Josh Groban, Bublé always seems like he is having a great time on stage and doesn’t take himself too seriously.
Exhibit C: He’s proud to be Canadian
The Juno Awards are all about celebrating Canadian music, and what better way to tie the show together than with someone who is vocally proud to be from the Great White North?
“I’m not saying that if you’re Canadian, you’re better than anyone else,” Bublé told George Stroumboulopoulos in 2007. “You are. But, I swear to you, wherever I go whether I’m in Europe or Africa or Australia or anywhere, being Canadian is a turn on for people … There’s a reason why American folks have a Canadian flag on their suitcases.”
Exhibit D: He can sing
In addition to his hosting duties, Bublé will also perform during the awards show, and we can bet that it will be as special as the crooner singing to these baby bumps on “The Graham Norton Show.”
