Is ‘No Money No Candy’ the worst rap video ever?

A new rap video from Quebec-based artist Alexandros Zapata landed online earlier this week, and it quickly went viral, scoring thousands of hits on YouTube. But the French-Canadian rapper's newfound fame isn’t on account of his undiscovered talent, but because of the sheer absurdity of his video for his new single, “No Money No Candy.”

To be honest, we’re not too sure what to make of it. The finished product is one of the most bizarre music videos you’re likely to see this or any other month. In fact it’s so inexplicably awful we suspect it may just turn out to be a parody.

So what can you expect when you click play?

Well, for starters, Zapata runs through all the clichés you’ve come to expect from the homemade hip-hop oeuvre, with a gaggle of bikini-clad women bumping and grinding their way around a budget yacht before jumping ship into the murky waters below. (Maybe they were trying to get away from Zapata’s auto-tuned lyrics?) Then the action shifts to a bar where the party continues on dry land, complete with liquor, pool playing, and more gratuitous gyrating.

The end result is a sort of home-shot “Jersey Shore,” so it’s no surprise that thousands of fans have watched the video and taken to the comments to pour scorn on it.

“Most cringe worthy thing i've seen this week" is how user jiglo1 put it.

Meanwhile, Wodey123 wonders: “How can you sound out of tune in autotune...”

Andreas Wildes summed up how all of us felt by saying: “I don't know what I just watched. I never want to see this again.”
