Rob Zombie reveals just how big of a hockey fan he really is

Thanks to horror films like “House of 1000 Corpses,” “The Devil's Rejects,” “Halloween,” “Halloween II” and his most recent movie “The Lords of Salem,” we’ve come to know multifaceted artist Rob Zombie as a heavy metal rocker with a flare for scaring us.

However, it might shock you to learn that the next motion picture on the 48-year-old musician/director's agenda isn't a horror flick. Instead, the film will give Zombie a chance to showcase his love for a sport near and dear to many Canadian hearts: Ice hockey.

“I played hockey as a kid and I’ve always been a fan, so when this project came up, especially this time period with the Philadelphia Flyers winning the Stanley Cup in 1974, I was very excited to do it,” the rock icon told Yahoo! Canada Music.

He went on, “That was my major time period for hockey fanaticism. As a kid, [my favourite team] was always the Boston Bruins because that’s where I’m from. Bobby Orr ruled the world [when I was] a kid and a bunch of us second graders were obsessed with [him.]”

Zombie's new film is titled “Broad Street Bullies” and it sounds like it’s just the first of many endeavours Zombie will be working on outside of the horror genre.

“This one’s a hockey movie [and] the next couple of projects that I have lined up, ‘Broad Street Bullies’ being the first one, are not horror related on any level,” he revealed. “I’m doing some different things for a while, which is good.”

Breaking out of your comfort zone can sometimes be a difficult thing to do, but it seems like exploring new territory in the film world is vital to Zombie and an essential step in developing his craft.

“[All of my projects] are important but I always feel like I never want to get pigeonholed because I like all kinds of movies, music and all kinds of anything,” he explained. “You never really want to get stuck in a situation where you feel like you’ve gotten yourself excluded from doing other types of things. It’s important to always be doing new things.”

While we patiently wait for more details on “Broad Street Bullies,” be sure to check out Zombie’s latest album “Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor,” which features music like the new tune “We're An American Band" and the first single “Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Super Town."

The rocker is currently on the road, with his next Canadian concert stop in Montreal on August 11. And if you’re craving a good scare this Halloween, you might want to try visiting Zombie’s “Great American Nightmare.”

The haunted house experience will take place in Pomona, Calif., from October 10 to November 2 and will also feature evenings of music with acts like 3OH!3, Emilie Autumn, Kottonmouth Kings, The Used and many more scheduled to perform.
