Stars who tried to sing…and failed

The world can seem like a cruel place at times. But it’s perhaps even more cruel today now that Paris Hilton has debuted a 15-second extract from the video of her new song "Good Time" which is set to be officially unveiled on Oct. 1.

Yes, you heard us right, after wrapping up a DJ residency in Ibiza, Paris Hilton is back behind the microphone and getting ready to take the music scene by storm.

As anyone who’s still haunted by Hilton’s previous attempt at a pop career will readily tell you, this isn’t the first time the actress/socialite/fashionista/DJ/ model/ reality TV star has tried to sing for her supper. Back in 2006 she topped the Hungarian charts - and made the top 5 here in Canada (but let’s be quiet about that shall we?) - with “Stars are Blind,” the first single off her debut album "Paris." The album eventually flopped.

However, Hilton isn’t the first celebrity who’s flopped as a singer. In fact a look through the seedier end of our CD collection reveals a rogue’s gallery of stars who tried to sing --and failed.

Kim Kardashian
She’s milked her fame for everything else so it came as no surprise when Kim Kardashian made the music industry cringe in 2011 when she released her iTunes one-off "Jam (Turn It Up)." It was awful. Don’t believe us? See for yourself.

Heidi Montag
High off her reality TV fame, Heidi Montag attempted to make it as a musician in the mid noughties with her aptly-titled album “Superficial.” It flopped, spectacularly.

Tyra Banks
The “America’s Next Top Model” star made an ill-advised assault on the charts in 2004. She never released an album but her one single, “Shake Ya Body," told us all we needed to know about her prospects as a pop star.

Kobe Bryant
Surrounding yourself with 'yes' men can be a bad idea, particularly when those people go along with the notion that you could spend your time off the court becoming a famous rapper. If only someone had said no, then Bryant might have avoided the embarrassment of his 1998 misadventure with music.

Corey Feldman
If he would have stopped after “The Goonies,” then Corey Feldman might hold a very different place in peoples’ hearts. Instead he did this -- and this.
