Avril Lavigne shows support for fiancé Chad Kroeger by covering Nickelback song for new movie

Looks like her new album isn't the only thing newly engaged musicians Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger may have worked on together.

Showing her love and support for her new fiancé and the frontman of Canadian rock band Nickelback, pop/punk princess Lavigne has covered the Kroeger-penned hit "How You Remind Me" for a new anime movie due out in 2013.

According to NME, the 28-year-old singer's rendition of the 2001 "Silver Side Up" album tune will be part of the soundtrack for "One Piece Film Z," the newest installment in the "One Piece" Japanese manga film series.

In addition, it was also announced that Lavigne will provide a new version of Joan Jett's 1980 classic song "Bad Reputation" for the soundtrack as well.

Kroeger said in 2003 that he wrote "How You Remind Me" about his ex-girlfriend Jodi, and Nickelback guitarist Ryan Peake remarked in an interview with MTV, "The last time we played it, Chad said, 'This is for all of your sh---y ex-girlfriends,' and you can pretty much say 'sh---y ex-boyfriends' in the same breath. Damn near 99 or 100 per cent of the people on the planet can relate to that. People like to hear a story told. If you can do it well, you can appeal to anybody."

Given the break-up anthem's history, it's interesting to think about how Lavigne's interpretation of the track will sound, and if Kroeger gave his bride-to-be any tips on how to perform it in a way that would make the Nickelback fans proud.

However,, it doesn't seem like fans of the Alberta band need any convincing when it comes to Lavigne, as they delivered a heart-warming gesture to the "Smile" hitmaker by singing her "Happy Birthday" during a Nickelback concert in Germany last September.
