Linkin Park, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga show their Olympic support

As we hit the midway mark of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, let's look back at some of the musicians who have lent their support to the hardworking athletes competing for their country.

Yesterday on Facebook, Mike Shinoda, on behalf of American rock band Linkin Park, extended a special concert invitation to the Team USA athletes, writing, "Dear Olympic Athletes, Thanks for your hard work and dedication in representing the U.S. at the London Olympics. When you return home, my bandmates and I cordially invite each and every one of you to be our guest at a Linkin Park concert of your choice on the upcoming Honda Civic Tour in the U.S., with Incubus and Mutemath…We hope to meet you soon. Until then, we'll be rooting for you here at home. Best, Mike Shinoda and Linkin Park."

In addition to the rock band's generous invitation, other artists like Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga have also extended their well wishes through Twitter.

Showing his support for Team Canada gymnastics, Bieber tweeted to all-around gymnast Dominique Pegg, writing, "Sorry I'm late 2 the party. Want to let you know as a proud Canadian I'm always supporting you and proud of you. STAND UP CANADA! :)." To which the athlete responded, "OMG thank you so much for tweeting me!! Thank you for teaching me to never give up on my dreams! #lookatusnow! #believe!"

Pegg also got a few retweets from the Biebs and according to The National Post, she also scored tickets to his "Believe" tour.

"We kind of have the same story,'' the Canadian gymnast said. "Well, not really, I'm not as famous as him. Obviously. But I came from a small town and had a big dream, and my dreams are coming true, like his. He really inspires me.''

Also showing her support for the Olympics is Lady Gaga, who began her slew of Summer Games-related tweets, writing, "The Olympics is the best ever. But I went through a whole pack of tissues last night. Watching hard working athletes achieve their dreams."

Lady Gaga then began to cheer on USA's "Fab Five" gymnastics team, tweeting, "Those girls are tearing the floor up for the USA! #Olympics," and, "Woohoo! Gold for the ladies! Just want to squeeze them! So much talent and beauty. Did u seem all holding hands? There's no 'I' in team."

Gold medalist McKayla Maroney responded to Gaga's tweets expressing her gratitude for the pop star's support, writing, "Thanks for watching @ladygaga!! <3 This team loves you & your music!! I also heard you were a gymnast?? ;)."

To which the 26-year-old singer seemed to turn into a bit of a fan girl, responding, "@McKaylaMaroney tweeted at me! Why didn't anybody tell me!!! DEAD. You were brilliant give all the girls a kiss for me! And no I did gymnastics for like a weeks [sic] and then dropped out for ballet!"
