Taylor Swift invited to prom by bullied teen with Oto-Palatal-Digital Syndrome

Devon Whitney, a teen born with a rare disease called Oto-Palatal-Digital Syndrome that leaves him in constant pain and according to 9 News, has caused "more than two dozen surgeries since the day he was born," is looking for a date to his high school prom.

The 19-year-old from Aurora, Colorado, has put off finding a date because he says that he is afraid to ask anyone. However, the shy teen has put his fears aside and decided to ask his "dream girl," Taylor Swift, to be his date to the big dance in the hope that with her on his arm, no one will make fun of him.

"I just think she's the sweetest girl I've ever known," Whitney said in an interview. "Because I saw her live in concert and I was like 'Oh my gosh, she's amazing!'"

By posting a video on message for Swift on YouTube, Whitney hopes to reach the country superstar.

"My senior prom is coming up and at first I didn't want to go," Whitney explains through the use of index cards in the clip. "It just seemed like another opportunity for kids to be mean. And let me tell you, kids can be REAL mean!"

Adding, "But then I started to think... If I had a crazy beautiful date how could they possibly make fun of me? So then I started to think of who that might be? No ordinary girl would do. Then you popped into my head. I've seen you in concert before. And you're BREATHTAKING!!"

The majority of comments on Whitney's video have been positive and encouraging. However, there have also been slew of less than kind notes like, "Don't you think this is a bit unfair on Taylor's side? You're putting her on the spot but come on she can't go out with every guy asking her out. This guy has heart but let's get realistic people!"

Comments like these haven't broken Whitney's courageous spirit and in response, his aunt Shanty writes, "He doesn't expect her to be able to go, he knows she's busy and he's ok with that. It wasn't meant to be unfair or put her on the spot, and you are definitely correct[,] she simply can't go out with every kid who asks, but you can't fault my nephew for trying!"

Swift seems to be a popular choice for 2012 prom dates.

Earlier this year, the Grammy Award winning artist was asked to the prom by Kevin McGuire, a teen suffering with leukemia, who was instead invited to accompany Swift to the Academy of Country Music Awards, however, was ultimately too sick to attend.
