‘Dark Knight Rises’ composer Hans Zimmer debuts song for Aurora, Colorado, shooting victims

On July 20, a gunman entered a suburban movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado, and opened fire on the audience killing 12 people and wounding 58 others during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises."

After this tragic event, the film's composer, Hans Zimmer, took to his Facebook page and expressed his feelings, writing, "I am devastated by this tragedy, and my heart is with the victims, survivors and their loved ones. Words fail me."

In an effort to honour those affected by the shooting and raise money for the victims, survivors and their families, the German composer has released a song titled "Aurora" with 100% of the proceeds from the purchase of the track going towards the Aurora Victim Relief organization.

"'Aurora' is dedicated to those who lost their lives and were affected by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado," the Academy Award winner said. "I recorded this song in London in the days following the tragedy as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families."

As The Hollywood Reporter points out, it was Zimmer's score that the audience heard as they were being attacked and the composer "felt a particular obligation to express his solidarity with the victims and their families and to reach out to them with some sort of concrete support."
