Rene Constant, 11-year-old drummer, receives Saskatchewan Country Music Award nomination

Rene Constant began drumming at the tender age of eight after watching his uncle play and listening to his hero, Ringo Starr.

He is a self-taught musician, part of the band Constant Reminder and proves that you are never too young to be noticed.

Born in Melfort, Saskatchewan and a member of the James Smith Indian Reserve, the now 11-year-old has been nominated for the All Star Band (Drums) award at this year's Saskatchewan Country Music Awards.

Rene's older brothers, Seth and Cole, founded Constant Reminder and released their first album last year. The boy's father named the band after a loving nickname he had for them while he was away. "In 2006/2007, our father wouldn't be home for long periods of time and he would miss all of us, his kids, his relatives, his home," the band wrote on their website. "On his travels he would get many little reminders of home, family, people, and us, constantly. So he called us…Constant Reminder."

Their mother, Karen, told The Canadian Press that "the nomination has been a great thing for the family" and that she is "really proud of him."

Great artists like Muddy Waters, The Rolling Stones and Johnny Cash influence the band and they plan on releasing their second album on April 1.

According to their Facebook page, "Their goal is to take music as far as music takes them. Play anywhere, anytime, and any opportunity to help, to influence and to inspire people young and old."
