MuchMusic Video Awards 2012: Does Chris Brown deserve his International Video of the Year nomination?

A total of 10 artists have been nominated in the category of International Video of the Year — Artist at this year's MuchMusic Video Awards and among them are mega superstars like Lady Gaga, David Guetta, Rihanna and Katy Perry.

Also nominated in the category are exes and recent collaborators Chris Brown and Rihanna, who recently reconciled after their domestic violence incident three years ago that had quite a diverse effect on each singer's career.

Since their split, Rihanna has soared to the top of the charts with hits like "Only Girl (In The World)," "What's My Name?" and most recently the smash single, "Where Have You Been?" that currently sits at number nine on Billboard's Hot 100.

This year, she is nominated in the category for her video "We Found Love" against Brown's duet with Canadian teen sensation Justin Bieber, "Next 2 You."

Compared to "We Found Love," "Next 2 You" lacks in YouTube views and chart position coming in with almost 95 million less views and a 25 spot gap, respectively.

Although, it looks like this could be the year that Brown turns it around and starts to make his way back to the top of the musical food chain with hits like the high-energy top 10 track, "Turn Up The Music."

The 23-year-old has come a long way since he was placed on probation and sentenced to community service for the assault on his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, that left her bloodied and bruised in 2009.

Since then, he has performed on major award shows like the Grammy Awards, the Billboard Music Awards and most recently, for an outdoor crowd on NBC's Today.

If the award for International Video of the Year — Artist came down to a race between Brown and Rihanna, the Barbadian beauty would win out of sheer popularity and the song's overall performance on the charts.

However, there are eight additional contenders in the category and I predict that Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" could walk away with the MMVA based on his over 240 million views on YouTube and 34 weeks on the charts peaking at number one.
